Plant displays

In addition to the 56 judged plant classes, the Autumn Cactus and Succulent Show at Harlow Carr will feature 4 cactus and succulent displays.  All members are invited to bring along their favourite plants to be part of them.

Each table display will have a different theme, to help give visitors to the show ideas about which cactus and succulent species they can grown in different parts of their garden and home.

The 4 displays will be for:

Plants grown as houseplants

Plants grown in a greenhouse

Plants grown outdoors all year round

Plants grown outdoors for summer

You can contribute to one display or several of the displays.  Bring a plant you want to show off, a plant that will give visitors new ideas, or a plant that has a story to tell.

We invite everyone displaying their cactus and succulents to also include a little info about them, as well as the plant’s name.

Maybe you want to share why you like the plant or why you brought it in.  Maybe you want to describe how or where you grow it so visitors can try growing it too.  Maybe your plant has an interesting story.  Maybe it was a gift from a loved one, or a famous name in the cactus and succulent world.  Feel free to share your name too, not just your plant’s!

We hope these displays will be educational and inspirational for visitors, and we hope that everyone who brings their plants enjoys having a chance to share their ideas and their unique view of the hobby.

The non-competitive plant displays can be staged until 10.45am on Saturday morning, ready for the show opening to visitors at 11am.  You can remove your plants at 4pm when the show ends.

The displays will be in the downstairs room of the Bramall Learning Centre building, along with the art and craft competition, the propagation activities and the sales table.

Because the displays aren’t judged, you don’t have to worry about following the usual BCSS show rules.  You can bring a container with more than one plant, you can incorporate accessories, and you can include plants that the BCSS doesn’t consider to be succulents.  For example, you might want to bring in a container that shows how hardy Sedum and Sempervivum can be planted with other alpine species to be part of the display of plants than can be grown outdoors all year round.
